After a long, dusty road of lane closures, detours, barricades and what sometimes felt like an endless sea of orange cones, the Bluebird District is ready for a different kind of takeover.
On Saturday, September 26, from 2–7 p.m., the Super Colfax Block Party / Bluebird Bodega will transform 12 blocks of East Colfax Avenue into a celebration of the businesses, artists, musicians, makers and neighbors who kept the district moving through construction.
For local businesses, construction has meant more than inconvenience. It changed access, visibility and traffic patterns and required owners to adapt again and again. Through it all, the independent restaurants, bars, shops and service businesses of the Bluebird District kept showing up. Now it is the community’s turn to show up for them.
The Super Colfax Block Party is part celebration, part neighborhood reunion and part invitation to rediscover Colfax. Ticket holders can wander the district for live music and buskers, food and drink samples, local shop pop-ins, maker pop-ups, live art and murals, giveaways and surprises throughout the neighborhood. The first 500 ticket holders will receive a recycled tote bag, custom spork with lanyard and official tour map. Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 day-of.
More than anything, the event marks a new chapter for a street that has weathered a difficult one. The construction may have changed how Colfax looked and moved, but it never erased the creativity, grit and independent spirit underneath it.
